Every semester, UP Diliman holds the Alternative Classroom Learning Experience (ACLE) to provide supplemental learning experiences and relevant knowledge to students beyond the conventional classroom setup and allow exploration of topics and subjects not usually covered in the standard curriculum.
UPJC has participated multiple times in the ACLE to offer UP students a glimpse of what the real world of journalism is about.
Some of the ACLE installments that UPJC organized include:
- “Big tech, big lies: On influence operations to the perversion of public discourse spaces in the Philippines” (2024) with former Washington Post reporter Regine Cabato and Sigla Action Research Center for Resilient Public Spheres public engagement head Juan Gabriel Felix
- “Super Science” (2014) with Project Noah information officer Candeze Mongaya and freelance science journalist Shaira Panela
- “aPROBEd: ethically speaking, of course!” with speakers from Probe (Cheche Lazaro, Booma Cruz, Celery Aganon and Janice Ponce de Leon)
- “Beyond Conventions: The importance of investigative journalism in developing countries” (2009) with investigative journalists Ed Lingao (now with TV5) and Miriam Grace Go (now with Rappler)
- “The Beat of the Seat” with speakers Paolo Romero (formerly with Philippine Star) and Sherrie Anne Torres (now with ABS-CBN News)
